BIOGRAPHY
Where It All Began
Oguz Can Ozcanli was born and raised in Izmir, Turkey where he began his music education at age 7. After studying piano and composition privately, he moved to Boston where he attended the world re-knowed Berklee College of Music from 2009 to 2013, and was awarded the Berklee Achievement Scholarship for 8 semesters in a row. He graduated cum lauden with a major in Contemporary Writing & Production. Ozcanli is currently building a succesful career as a Film and TV composer in addition to working as a pianist, producer, arranger and engineer. He has composed music for TV shows appearing on Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, NBC, FOX, A&E and other major networks. Some of the past credits include National Geographic TV Movie ‘’Billy The Kid: New Evidence’’ by 20 Century FOX. Starring and co-produced by Kevin Costner. TV Series “Making It” by NBCUniversal. Starring Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation.
After graduating from Berklee, Ozcanli moved to Los Angeles to work as a Music Director, Arranger, Orchestrator and Pianist at Happy All Day Inc. Musical Theatre program. Show credits include: Chicago, Grease, Aristocats, Alice In Wonderland, Cindrealla, The Drowsy Chaperone and many more. In this program, he worked along side with Joey Rich (Big Bang Theory) and Hillary Turk (Gypsy).
Same year he became a signed composer under Reality Tune LLC, a production company by Seth Stachowski who is currently serving as Music Director and multi-instrumentalist for Cirque du Soleil’s Broadway television PARAMOUR. Company focused on the creation of high-end custom music for television; whose clients include Letfield Entertainment, Authentic Entertainment and Gurney Productions.
In 2014 Oguz wrote total of 6 episodes of additional music for the TV Series “Leah Remini: It’s All Relative” Starring Leah Remini; most famous for her role in long- running comedy “King Of Queens”.
In 2015 he wrote additional music for National Geographic TV Movie “Billy The Kid: New Evidence” by 20 Century FOX. Co-produced and starred by Kevin Costner, produced by Letfield pictures, directed by Mark Kohl. Later that year he was asked to write additional music for the 3 times ASCAP Film and TV Music Award Winner and Critics Choise Television Award nominated History Channel’s “Pawn Stars”. He wrote music for a total of 23 episodes.
In November 2015, he wrote music for Discovery Channel TV Series “Killing Fields”. Executive produced by the Academy Award winning “Rain Man” director Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana (Oz, Homicide), receiver of three Emmy Awards, four Peabody Awards, three Writers Guild Awards and four Television Critics Association Awards. Killing Fields is the first true crime series developed by Discovery which Ozcanli wrote music for 15 Episodes including 3rd season 2018. Produced by Letfield Pictures.
In July 2016 he was commissioned to write music for History Channel TV Series “Alone”. Executive produced by Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Documentary winner Russ McCaroll, and Letfield Pictures. The series received positive reviews in its first season and outstanding reviews for its third season. “Alone” earned a respectable 2.5 million total viewers, placing it in the top three new nonfictional cable series of 2015 which Oguz wrote music for 13 episodes including 4th season in 2017.
Same year Oguz wrote 6 episodes of additional music for FOX Network TV Series “American Grit”, recipient of Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs. Executive produced and hosted by wrestling superstar John Cena. Produced by Letfield Pictures.
In October 2016 Oguz became a signed composer under Burnett Music Group LLC, founded by Mark Burnett’s son James Burnett. Oguz is writing music for the company which is a full-service entertainment company. Under Burnett Music Group, Oguz has worked on shows including; Mariah Carey’s “Mariah’s World” on E!, Steve Harvey’s “Funderdome” on ABC, Amy Poehler’s “Making It” on NBC, “Staten Island Hustle” on CNBC, “Coupled” on FOX, and many others.
In December 2016 Oguz wrote music for the Short Film “Art, Love and Other Habits” which became a recipient of “Award of Excellence” in the category of Best Mystery / Thriller at Southern Shorts Awards Fall 2017 Season. Selected for Los Angeles 2018 Official Selection at 21st Annual Playhouse West Film Festival. Nominated for the Best Horror Baddy at 13Horror.com Short Film Nominations and Winners.
Other composing credits Oguz had after 2016 include; History Channel TV Series “Forged in Fire” produced by Letfield Pictues, Discovery Channel TV Series “The Vanishing Women”, FYI TV Series “Tiny House Nation” produced by Loud TV, Discovery Channel TV Series “Blue Collar Backers”, TV One TV Series “For My Man” and NFL Networks “Madden America”.
In 2017 Oguz became a signed composer under SPM Music Group LLC and Velvet Green Music Group LLC. As a signed composer under SPM Music Group Oguz has composed an album named “Infiltrator” which will be distributed on July 2018 under Revolt Production Music Label.
During his Berklee years, Oguz was chosen to represent Berklee in Turkey as an instructor and a judge. He led and organized Berklee Music Workshop in his home-town Izmir, Turkey. He prepared course material, attended as an instructor and chose one student to be awarded a free course from Berklee Online.
Prior to attending Berklee, Oguz wrote the score for “The Queen Is In The Factory” directed by Alikemal Guven, starring famous Turkish pop singer and actress Hande Yener.
Ozcanli’s album credits include; his first EP “Ocean”, composed by himself, arranged by Mirek Kocandrle. Oguz also worked as an assistant engineer at flamenco artist Cengiz Han Hickiran’s album produced by Hit Records Publishing LLC. Lately he appeared on 2nd place winner of the international Rode Rocks music competition Mavi Maymun’ s album “Dunyayi Ararken” as an arranger and pianist.
On June 2018 Oguz released his 2nd single “Sunset Bossa consisting of 3 time Grammy winner and 14 time Grammy nominated bass guitar virtuoso John Patitucci, 2018 Latin Jazz Grammy winner and Emmy winner guitarist Claudio Ragazzi, Grammy Music Educator Award Nominee Whitney Houston’s former pianist Jetro Da Silva playing Oguz’s composition. In this production Oguz served as a composer and a producer, which was recorded at Sonic Fuel Studios El Segundo CA. Sunset Bossa is distributed worldwide through Itunes, Spotify and Amazon.
Right now Oguz is writing music for the CBS Show “The Total Knock Out” and composing jazz-themed tracks for 411 Music Group LLC.
